Becoming a stem cell donor

Register as a stem cell donor!

Are you 18 years or older, healthy, and willing to give someone a second chance at life? By joining the stem cell donor registry, you could provide seriously ill patients with their last and most vital hope of survival.

Once registered, your details will be anonymized and securely added to the global database of potential stem cell donors. If you are identified as the best-matching donor, you could make a life-saving difference for someone in need.

Donating stem cells is a small act that has a huge impact. Each registration helps increase the chances of finding the right match for every patient in need.
Register today and encourage your friends and family to do the same!

Donors like you save lives

NMDPSM connects thousands of patients every year with donors like you for a life-saving blood stem cell transplant—and has been doing so since 1987.

Other countries

If you want to join the registry and you’re not living in the Netherlands or the USA, we recommend checking which organization manages the registry in your country of residence.

You can find your local registry at:

Every year, thousands of people get really sick from blood cancers or genetic diseases. For many of them, the only chance to get better is a transplant of stem cells, bone marrow, or cord blood. But here’s the problem: finding the right match is not easy. It’s even harder for people with mixed heritage or from ethnic minority groups, because for them there are fewer matches in the WMDA global database. By signing up as a voluntary stem cell donor, you might change the odds for someone who needs help to survive. And one day you could get the call because you are the perfect match for a patient in need.

Who Can Register?

  • Most countries allow registration if you are between 18 and 35 years old
  • You need to be healthy and meet safe weight limits
  • You need to be committed and willing to donate, if you get called
